At Rock Point Church, we believe our missions and outreach efforts should be fueled by love and accomplished with the goal of leaving of a legacy.  So, in 2009, Rock Point officially launched our new missions initiative called “Legacy of Love”.

To say that Legacy of Love (LoL) was a radically new missions concept would be an understatement.   We literally threw out all current policies and practices and started from scratch to rethink missions at Rock Point.  One thing we knew for certain was the new model had to be done in a manner consistent with the vision of a simple church that God had given to Pastor Bill.  So, we decided to abandon all golf tournaments, car washes, and individual fundraising appeals.  We also took this opportunity to reassess our entire philosophy toward missions.  Instead of an attitude that focused on “giving a fish”, we fully embraced a focus of teaching people “how to fish” instead.

Once we had decided we would simplify our approach to raising funds, and alter our objectives on how to spend those funds, Rock Point then landed on three guiding principles for how to complete the mission realignment process:

•Concentration of efforts into an annual focus that would serve as a reminder we are called to impact the world for Christ;
•Provide an occasion to celebrate the amazing ways God used Rock Point to impact our neighborhood and beyond; and
•Offer an opportunity for Rock Pointers to make a single gift that funds all Rock Point mission endeavors for the coming year.

The result was Legacy of Love, and the ensuing years have brought confirmation that our radical new approach was worth the risk.  To date, more than $100,000 has been contributed to Legacy of Love.  Your overwhelming support of Legacy of Love has provided invaluable resources that have given Rock Point’s mission a solid foundation from which to build.

Following are just a few examples of how Legacy of Love 2011 supporters helped make make an impact beyond the walls of Rock Point:
•Provided $2,500 of financial aid to Japan International Food for the Hungry so they could respond to some of the most urgent needs in Sendai, a coastal city in northeaster Miyagi, that suffered catastrophic damage following the 8.9 magnitude earthquake and resulting tsunami.
•Provided a $1,000 gift that qualified to be multiplied by 20 TIMES through matching grants from USAID and OFDA.  The gift provided the people of Kenya with life-saving clean water, food, sanitation, education and urgently needed supplies in the name of Jesus.
•Sponsorship of the Rock Point Youth to take a Mission Trip to Mazatlan, Mexico.  This experience left an indelible mark on these impressionable young people (and their leaders), and blessed two families with a new home in the process.
•A mission team went to Honduras and worked alongside the locals to build a pastor’s training center and a children’s outreach facility.
•Seven Free Medical Clinics were offered that served more than (75) under-insured and un-insured individuals.
•Provided much needed funding for organizations, like Streetlight and Free to Laugh:Laugh to Free, who are diligently working to eradicate child sex slavery.

Although you can contribute to Legacy of Love all year long, during the month of February is the only time we will specifically ask you to participate.  Do not miss this opportunity to make your contribution to the Rock Point legacy, fueled by love, that is literally spreading around the world.
